The Prevention Resource Center (PRC) serves as a central data collection point for 28 counties in South Central Texas as it relates to alcohol (underage drinking), marijuana, prescription drugs, and other drugs. We provide tobacco retailer compliance checks to ensure compliance of Texas Tobacco Laws and educate retailers about the penalties of selling to minors. Our goal is to develop a Regional Needs Assessment (RNA) that will identify resource gaps, drug patterns, and prevention training needs in our communities. Works under the umbrella of the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (SACADA). The council provides education, youth prevention programs, information resources and services aimed at preventing alcohol and drug abuse. SACADA integrate multiple prevention strategies that target school districts and a multitude of community organizations. Of those we served, 80% are primarily from economically disadvantaged homes and are at-risk for substance abuse and other problems like school dropout.
